Starbucks lady

This picture of an African woman, I suspect is Ethiopian, sits close to the door of Starbucks in Greenfield District, Mandaluyong. Romanticized, yes.

No one knows what she has to go through picking those coffee cherries so all of us can have a taste of that overpriced, overhyped, and overmarketed Starbucks coffee.

Thank you, Starbucks lady.

  1. It’s sad seeing someone being forced by circumstance to work on a place they don’t really want to. For all we know, this woman might’ve had dreamed on being a nurse, a teacher or an entrepreneur. It is highly unlikely for her or everyone else, for that matter, to dream on picking up coffee beans under the extreme heat of the African sun all day long as a means of livelihood. You have to wonder, then, on where she got the motivation and the energy to show a grin on her face given her conditions that was not fully shown in its entirety by that picture in Starbucks Mandaluyong.
